A PPSR registration is a notice that someone claims a security interest in a piece of property — often a car.
It records that a party (a “secured party”, usually a finance company) has an interest in the vehicle, typically because finance is or was involved. Importantly, a registration is a claim on record — not proof that you personally owe an amount.

What the PPSR is
The Personal Property Securities Register is the single national register of security interests in personal property — anything other than land, including motor vehicles.
It's operated by the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA). Vehicles dominate it: motor vehicles make up about 69% of all new registrations and are the most-searched class (around 55% of searches), across more than 10.7 million active registrations (AFSA — State of the Personal Property Securities System 2024–25).
What a registration actually records
A registration records a claimed security interest, the secured party's details, and the collateral — for a car, identified by its VIN.
Who lodges them, and why
Finance companies and other secured parties lodge registrations to protect their interest while finance is on foot. On a vehicle, the interest is registered against the VIN, so a search on that number surfaces it.
Why it matters when buying or selling
For a buyer, a registration is the signal to pause — a $2 PPSR search before buying reveals it, and a dated clear certificate offers protection (ppsr.gov.au — do a used car search). For an owner or seller, an outstanding registration blocks a clean sale until it's discharged.
A registration is not the last word. An incorrect registration can be removed, a paid-out one can be discharged, and a stuck one can be escalated to the PPSR Registrar.

How Verexia is designed to assist
If a registration on your car is unclear, incorrect, or lingering, Verexia is being built to work out what it actually means and, where it shouldn't be there, clear it.
- Reading the search and establishing what the registration actually means.
- Working out whether an amount is genuinely owed, and by whom — before anything else.
- Where it shouldn't be there, dealing with the secured party and clearing it.
The first step will always be working out where you stand. Final outcomes depend on the secured party and the facts of the registration, and no service can promise otherwise. What Verexia will commit to is doing the work and being straight about what's achievable.
Verexia is preparing a service designed to assist with vehicle ownership, finance and PPSR matters. Services are not currently available. Register your interest and we will contact you when the relevant service launches.
