Keeping clean title across a used-vehicle yard is a routine, two-part job: clearing prior interests on the stock you take in, and discharging your own floorplan finance on each car as it sells.

Do both consistently and every sale gives the buyer clean title — and their own PPSR search comes back clean, which is what protects the transaction (ppsr.gov.au — PPSR and the automotive industry).

Clean title on the yard is a process, not a one-off: search on intake, discharge on sale.

Two kinds of interest to manage

  • Prior interests on incoming stock — a trade-in or auction buy can carry a previous owner's finance. Search and resolve it before the car goes on the yard.
  • Floorplan finance on your inventory — where a financier funds your stock and registers a security interest over it. It's discharged on each vehicle as it sells.

A clean-title routine for the yard

  1. Search every vehicle on intake

Run a $2 PPSR search by VIN on every car as it comes in (ppsr.gov.au). Keep the dated certificate on file.

  2. Resolve prior interests before it's listed

Where a car carries a previous owner's finance, settle and discharge it — or have a leftover registration removed — before it goes on the yard.

  3. Discharge floorplan on sale

As each vehicle sells, make sure your floorplan financier's interest over it is discharged, so the buyer's search is clean.

  4. Confirm and keep the record

A fresh search at the point of sale, showing no security interest, is the evidence of clean title — for the buyer and for your own records.

How Verexia is designed to assist

Keeping stock clean-title — searching incoming vehicles, resolving prior security interests, confirming each car clear — is the yard-side job Verexia is preparing, so every sale gives the buyer clean title.

  • Searching incoming stock by VIN and flagging anything registered before it's listed.
  • Resolving prior interests — discharging live finance, removing leftovers.
  • Confirming clean title with a fresh search at the point of sale.

The first step will always be working out where you stand. Final outcomes depend on the secured party and the facts of the registration, and no service can promise otherwise. What Verexia will commit to is doing the work and being straight about what's achievable.

Verexia is preparing a service designed to assist with vehicle ownership, finance and PPSR matters. Services are not currently available. Register your interest and we will contact you when the relevant service launches.

Frequently asked questions

Search every incoming vehicle on the PPSR by VIN, resolve any prior security interest before it goes on the yard, and keep dated certificates. That's what lets each sale give the buyer clean title.

Floorplan (floor stock) finance is where a financier funds a dealer's inventory and registers a security interest over that stock. It's normal, but it has to be discharged on each vehicle as it sells so the buyer takes clean title.

A buyer or lessee from a licensed motor vehicle dealer generally takes free of security interests where they give new value and the dealer is licensed to deal in that kind of vehicle. Clearing registrations is still best practice.

Establish what's registered, settle and discharge a genuine interest, or have an incorrect or leftover registration removed through the amendment process before the vehicle is resold.
